MD-MUSCLE Tropocollagen GUNA 1×2 ml – muscle therapy, bruxism, rehabilitation
Preparation based on type I tropocollagen by GUNA Medical Device (Milan, Italy), designed for injectable therapy of muscles, fascia and connective tissue. Unique formula — tropocollagen, St John's Wort, NaCl and water for injection — targets muscle tension, pain and limited range of motion. Simultaneously delivers aesthetic benefits: support for bruxism therapy, facial muscle relaxation and a more rested appearance. Intramuscular application with 27G needle. For qualified professionals only.
This page covers the single ampoule 1×2 ml. Also available as a clinic pack 10×2 ml with a lower unit price. See also other GUNA line preparations: MD-TISSUE (connective tissue and skin) and MD-MATRIX (ECM matrix, cellulite).
What is MD-MUSCLE and how does it work?
MD-MUSCLE is produced by Italian company GUNA Medical Device, specialists in native tropocollagen medical preparations. The main active ingredient — type I tropocollagen — is the natural, non-crosslinked precursor of mature collagen that penetrates muscle and connective tissue directly after injection, regenerating damaged fibres, rebuilding the fascial layer and normalising tissue tension.
Unlike aesthetic collagen preparations (MD-TISSUE or MD-MATRIX), MD-MUSCLE targets the muscle precisely: delivered intramuscularly into the muscle belly, it activates local collagen synthesis, improves sarcomere elasticity and supports signal transmission between the muscle and its fascial sheaths — a complete functional therapy, not just regenerative.
Type I tropocollagen – why is it the key ingredient?
Tropocollagen is the monomeric, native form of collagen — the structural unit before crosslinking. Unlike hydrolysed collagen (short peptide fragments), tropocollagen retains the complete triple helix structure, enabling it to:
- integrate directly into the extracellular matrix of muscle and fascial tissue,
- activate local fibroblasts and myoblasts to synthesise new collagen fibres,
- restore the correct connective tissue architecture around muscle fibres,
- restore mechanical properties of the muscle — elasticity, resilience and proper tone.
St John's Wort – its role in the formula
Hypericum Perforatum (St John's Wort) in MD-MUSCLE serves as a supporting active: it exerts documented analgesic and anti-inflammatory action at tissue level. Hyperforins and hypericins inhibit pro-inflammatory mediators at the injection site, reducing pain and inflammation accompanying muscle tension — accelerating the effects of collagen therapy.
MD-MUSCLE in bruxism therapy and facial aesthetics
MD-MUSCLE is one of the few collagen preparations with a dual — muscular and aesthetic — application on the face. For bruxism, injection into the masseter muscles supports their relaxation, reduces excessive tension and relieves jaw pain. Simultaneously tropocollagen rebuilds the connective tissue surrounding the muscle — result: improved skin condition over the treatment area and a more rested, relaxed facial appearance. Analogous application for tension in forehead muscles, the eye area and neck.
Indications
- muscle tension and hypertonicity,
- limited range of motion and stiffness,
- movement-related pain and local pain complaints,
- postural issues affecting muscle function,
- need to improve muscle elasticity,
- support for post-injury rehabilitation,
- bruxism — excessive masseter muscle tension,
- facial muscle tension (forehead, eye area, masseters, neck),
- anti-ageing prevention — rested facial appearance.
Treatment results
- improved muscle elasticity and resilience,
- increased range of motion,
- reduction of local pain complaints,
- support of healthy muscle tone,
- regeneration of muscle connective tissue and fascia,
- improved skin condition in the treatment area,
- more rested facial appearance,
- support for bruxism therapy,
- support for rehabilitation processes.

FAQ – questions and answers
How does MD-MUSCLE differ from MD-TISSUE and MD-MATRIX?
All three GUNA preparations contain tropocollagen but have different targets. MD-MUSCLE targets muscles and fascia — tension, bruxism, rehabilitation. MD-TISSUE is dedicated to connective tissue and skin — scars, stretch marks, cellulite, tissue remodelling. MD-MATRIX focuses on the extracellular matrix — skin quality, cellulite. Preparation selection depends on the indication and treatment area.
How does MD-MUSCLE work for bruxism?
Injection of MD-MUSCLE into the masseter muscles delivers tropocollagen directly into muscle tissue. Tropocollagen normalises the tissue tension of muscle fibres, and St John's Wort reduces local inflammation and pain. The result is gradual relaxation of excessively tense masseters, reduction of jaw pain and improved comfort. The 10-week course delivers lasting functional and aesthetic results.
How does tropocollagen differ from hydrolysed collagen?
Tropocollagen is the native, full-chain form of collagen retaining the triple helix structure. Hydrolysed collagen consists of short peptides produced by enzymatic cleavage — they act mainly through signalling but do not integrate into the tissue matrix. Tropocollagen integrates directly into the ECM, restoring the architecture of muscle and connective tissue at the structural level.
How long is the protocol and when do results appear?
The recommended protocol is 1–2 sessions per week for 10 weeks. First improvements in elasticity and pain reduction are typically felt after 3–4 sessions. The full therapeutic effect — including the aesthetic effect (rested appearance, improved facial oval) — develops after completing the cycle and continues to build for several weeks after the last treatment.
Can MD-MUSCLE and botulinum toxin be used together?
MD-MUSCLE and botulinum toxin have different mechanisms and complement each other. Botulinum toxin blocks neuromuscular transmission (short-term, purely functional effect), while MD-MUSCLE regenerates the muscle's connective tissue and normalises its tissue tone (long-term effect). Used in combination (with appropriate timing as advised by the specialist), they can deliver a synergistic result for bruxism and facial muscle tension. The decision to combine always rests with the specialist.
MD-MUSCLE is intended exclusively for use by doctors and cosmetologists trained in aesthetic medicine holding qualifications to perform intramuscular injections. By purchasing this product you confirm that you hold the required professional qualifications. Download the manufacturer's instructions (PDF) before first use.
