What is NOVUMA CaHa?

NOVUMA CaHa is an advanced tissue biostimulator from the calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) stimulator line, manufactured by the Korean brand Burgeon. The product stands out thanks to its exceptionally high CaHa microsphere density (55–60%) suspended in a carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) gel carrier — with no added hyaluronic acid. This results in exceptionally natural-looking effects, with the patient's facial features remaining their own — simply rejuvenated and firmed.

The NOVUMA formula works on two levels simultaneously: immediately — through the CMC gel carrier, which models the tissues and lifts them during the procedure, and long-term — through the CaHa microspheres, which after the gel is gradually absorbed stimulate fibroblasts to produce the patient's own collagen and elastin.

Two-stage mechanism of action of CaHa

Calcium hydroxyapatite acts in two distinct stages, which together produce an effect impossible to achieve with a classic HA filler or a typical biostimulator (e.g. PLLA) alone:

  • Stage 1 – immediate lifting (first weeks): the CMC gel gently fills lost volumes, improves facial contour and provides an initial lifting of the tissues. Immediately after the procedure the face looks more compact, refreshed and rejuvenated. The gel also acts as a mechanical scaffold holding the CaHa microspheres in the correct tissue position.
  • Stage 2 – collagen biostimulation (subsequent months): as the CMC gel is gradually absorbed, the CaHa microspheres become a direct mechanical stimulus for fibroblasts (mechanostimulation). Activated fibroblasts increase their activity by more than 35% and intensively produce new collagen fibres. Initially type III collagen (regenerative) predominates, gradually replaced by type I collagen — which makes up 80–85% of the dermal matrix. The result is a lasting, biological rebuilding of the tissue structure.

The entire regenerative effect lasts from 12 to 24 months. The product is completely biodegraded over time, leaving in the skin only what is most valuable — the patient's own rebuilt tissue.

Calcium hydroxyapatite – what is it and how does it work?

Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) is a mineral naturally occurring in human bones and teeth. In aesthetic medicine a synthetic, biocompatible form is used in the shape of precisely manufactured microspheres. The mechanism of action of CaHa is based on direct mechanostimulation of fibroblasts:

  • After injection, CaHa microspheres form a biological scaffold within the tissue that supports the growth of new collagen fibres.
  • The mechanical pressure of the microspheres on fibroblasts activates their internal signalling pathways, triggering neocollagenogenesis — the production of new collagen.
  • CaHa also stimulates neovascularisation — the formation of new blood vessels, improving tissue nutrition and oxygenation.
  • It rebuilds the extracellular matrix (ECM) — not only at the cellular level but across the entire regenerative-repair system of the dermis.
  • Microspheres are gradually broken down into calcium and phosphate ions, metabolised naturally by the body — no bioaccumulation.

Scientific evidence confirms that CaHa induces synthesis of type I and III collagen, improves the density of the extracellular matrix and provides lasting improvement in skin tone and elasticity.

Burgeon ceramic technology – what sets NOVUMA apart?

  • High CaHa density: 55–60% — higher than older market formulas, translating into more intensive and longer-lasting collagen biostimulation.
  • Precise microsphere size: 25–45 microns — smooth, round microspheres with exactly calibrated dimensions. This minimises the risk of granuloma formation and prevents phagocytosis (uptake by macrophages before the stimulation function is complete).
  • CMC carrier without hyaluronic acid — unlike products combining CaHa with HA, NOVUMA uses pure CMC gel. The effects are more natural and the patient's facial features remain their own.
  • Application force below 5 Newtons — exceptional comfort for the practitioner, lower risk of micro-trauma to tissues during injection.
  • ISO Class 7 production — the highest cleanliness standard for medical device production, guaranteeing safety and batch consistency.
  • High rheology — excellent plasticity, fluidity and elasticity of the product, ensuring natural-looking results and better tissue integration.

How does CaHa differ from HA filler and PLLA stimulator?

  • HA filler — acts purely mechanically: fills tissue space and hydrates. Does not stimulate new collagen production. The effect lasts 6–18 months and disappears completely after HA biodegradation.
  • PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) — synthetic biostimulator, acts through a controlled inflammatory response and indirect fibroblast stimulation. Results develop slowly (4–12 weeks) and are very long-lasting (2–3 years). No immediate volumetric effect — risk of nodules with incorrect technique.
  • NOVUMA CaHa — combines the best of both: immediate lifting and contouring effect (CMC gel) with long-lasting collagen biostimulation (CaHa). Acts as both filler and biostimulator. No nodule risk thanks to ceramic microspheres. Natural effect without stiffness.

CaHa is an excellent choice for patients who want to improve their skin naturally but are concerned about exaggerated results typical of classic fillers, or the long wait for results characteristic of PLLA.

Treatment results

FAQ – questions and answers

How does NOVUMA CaHa differ from Radiesse?
Both products are based on calcium hydroxyapatite in a CMC carrier, but NOVUMA stands out with a higher CaHa density (55–60% vs ~47% in Radiesse), precisely calibrated ceramic microspheres of 25–45 microns and no HA in the formula. Burgeon's advanced technology delivers natural, long-lasting results with minimal risk of complications.

When are the first results visible?
Lifting and contouring are visible immediately after the procedure — the CMC gel lifts tissues and improves contour. Collagen biostimulation results develop over the following weeks and months as CaHa stimulates fibroblasts to produce the patient's own collagen.

How long does the effect last?
The effect lasts from 12 to 24 months, depending on the treatment area, individual skin characteristics, age and lifestyle of the patient.

Can NOVUMA CaHa be used on the body (not just the face)?
Yes — NOVUMA has an extensive treatment protocol covering the neck, décolletage, arms, abdomen, buttocks, legs, as well as areas with cellulite and stretch marks. Each area has specific dilution ratios assigned for the physiological saline dilution of the product.

How many treatments are needed?
Typically 1–2 treatments in the standard cycle, with an optional maintenance treatment after 12–18 months. The full protocol is available for download in the manufacturer's documentation.

Is the product safe — what happens after biodegradation?
CaHa is biodegraded into calcium and phosphate ions, which the body metabolises naturally. The product does not accumulate in tissues. ISO Class 7 production guarantees the sterility and safety of every batch.
